Vitalize Peels

What are Vitalize Peels?
Vitalize peels are light chemical peels, similar to glycolic acid treatments, using Vitalize solution as the peeling agent. Vitalize solution is a combination of salicylic acid (a beta hydroxy acid), lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) and resorcinol. Vitalize solution is a variation of Jessner's solution, which has been is use for over 100 years and thus has an extremely long history of safety and efficacy.

What conditions will Vitalize Peels help?
Vitalize peels can improve brown discoloration and blemishes, acne, fine wrinkles, and sun damaged and weathered skin.

How does Vitalize solution help the skin?
Vitalize solution decreases the "glue" holding dead cells on the skin’s surface. Because it is a stronger peeling agent than glycolic acid, it also gently peels away the surface skin cells containing excess pigment.

What happens during a Vitalize peel?
Your skin is first gently cleansed. Then the Vitalize solution is applied by Dr. Steinman’s medical assistant. A fan is used to help cool the skin, which tingles and feels slightly warm as the Vitalize solution works. Every few minutes, another layer of Vitalize solution is applied until the desired end-point is reached.

How many layers of Vitalize solution will be applied to my face?
Dr. Steinman will analyze your skin and determine how strong a Vitalize solution your skin needs. You also play a role in this decision. Unlike other peels, the amount of peeling you will experience after your Vitalize treatment can be adjusted to your needs and desires. Patients who do not mind having mild to moderate peeling for two to three days may request a stronger Vitalize peel. Those who want minimal flaking or peeling may request a lighter treatment.
Because of this ability to adjust the strength of the treatment, even patients with sensitive skin may have Vitalize peels.

How much time will I miss from work after each Vitalize treatment?
None! Vitalize peels are more gentle than other chemical peels. You may return to work immediately after you r treatment. However, because they are more gentle, you will need several peels, at three to six week intervals, to achieve the best results.

Can patients with darker skin tones benefit from Vitalize treatments?
Yes! Unlike stronger and deeper peels, Vitalize treatments do not lighten the normal skin. they are therefore safe for patients with darker skin types, including Hispanic, African American, and Asian skin types.

How many Vitalize peels will I need before I see results?
Most people begin to notice softer and smoother skin with lightening of their darker areas after two or three treatments.

Will Vitalize peels alone improve my skin?
Although Vitalize treatments are very effective at improving your skin, they are not best used alone. It is very important that you use an effective sunscreen every day.
You will also see better and more rapid results if you combine Vitalize peels with Lustra, glycolic acid, Retin-A (tretinoin) and/or Vitamin C.
Dr. Steinman will recommend a comprehensive skin care regimen, tailored to your unique skin condition, that will most effectively improve your skin’s appearance.

Can we guarantee satisfaction?
Dr. Steinman offers Vitalize peels because most patients are delighted with the results. Satisfaction, however, is based on realistic expectations. No procedure is free of the risk of side effects and no treatment can remove every abnormal spot or wrinkle.
