Stretched and torn earring holes are a rare and unpleasant fact of life for some people who wear earrings. Dr. Steinman routinely repairs these injuries using safe, effective, out-patient surgical techniques. Patients are back wearing their favorite earrings in weeks.
Why do pierced earring holes become stretched?
Several factors are often responsible. It may be caused by pulling and pressure of the telephone receiver on the ear. Trauma and wearing heavy earrings may also be a cause.
How are these stretch holes repaired?
Elongated earring holes are corrected by first carefully trimming out the stretched hole or tear. This is done painlessly using a local anesthetic. Once the damaged hole or tear has been removed, it is very carefully repaired in a way that helps prevent future stretching. The stitches are removed after one week and the earlobe is re-pierced after 6 to 8 weeks.
Is there a scar from this procedure?
There is a very fine line scar. Dr. Steinman takes special care to create a non-linear scar that is usually not visible in most cases.
Is the procedure painful?
The surgery itself is virtually painless, because it is done under local anesthetic. There is only very mild discomfort after the procedure that lasts only one or two days.
How much does earlobe repair cost?
Costs will vary based on the extent of the problem. The average is $250 to $500 for one side.
