The natural and gentle way to skin rejuvenation
Dr. Steinman offers a variety of glycolic acid rejuvenation treatments, tailored to each patient's individual needs. Unlike many centers, that offer one strength of treatment, Dr. Steinman offers five separate forms of glycolic acid peels.
What is glycolic acid?
Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring substance derived from sugar cane. It is the simplest and most effective alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). For centuries, AHA's derived from plants, fruits, milk, and wine have been used as moisturizers and skin fresheners.
What conditions will glycolic acid treatments help?
Glycolic acid can improve acne, dry skin, fine wrinkles, sun damaged and weathered skin, and uneven pigmentation.
How do glycolic acid treatments help the skin?
Glycolic acid weakens the "glue" holding dead cells on the skin's surface. When these cells dissolve, smoother, softer skin is revealed. Glycolic acid also stimulates the skin to make new, healthier collagen and elastin fibers in the deeper dermis, improving sun damage and wrinkling.
What are glycolic acid rejuvenation treatments?
A solution containing a relatively high concentration of glycolic acid is applied to your skin for several minutes. Currently, Dr. Steinman uses five different formulations of glycolic acid to best suit each patient's needs. When the skin starts to turn light pink, the glycolic acid is gently neutralized and a specialized apres peel cream is applied to the skin.
How much time will I miss from work after a glycolic acid rejuvenation treatment?
None! Glycolic acid rejuvenation treatments are different from chemical peels. You may return to work immediately after your treatment. However, because they are more gentle, it is usually necessary to receive several treatments to get the best results. Four to six treatments at three to four week intervals are usually needed to achieve the desired effects.
Will other body areas improve with treatment?
Yes. The arms, hands, chest and neck respond well to glycolic acid. Improvement may be slower than seen on the face. However, these areas can be treated more aggressively, using stronger products with higher concentrations of glycolic acid.
Can patients with darker skin tones benefit from glycolic acid treatments?
Yes! Unlike many stronger and deeper chemical peels, glycolic acid rejuvenation treatments do not lighten the normal skin. They are therefore safe for patients with darker skin types, including those with Hispanic, African American, and Asian skin tones.
Will Glycolic Acid Treatments alone improve my skin?
Although glycolic acid are very effective at improving your skin, they are not best used alone. It is very important that you use an effective sunscreen every day.
You will also see better and more rapid results if you combine Glycolic peels with topical fading creams, glycolic acid , Retin-A (tretinoin) and/or Vitamin C.
Dr. Steinman will recommend a comprehensive skin care regimen, tailored to your unique skin condition, that will most effectively improve your skin's appearance.
How long will I have to use glycolic acid before I see improvement?
Most people begin to notice softer, smoother skin with two to three weeks! It will take several months of continued daily use to obtain the best results. Faster results are achieved when home use of glycolic acid products is combined with in-office glycolic acid rejuvenation treatments.
