
Dr. Steinman is the first and only Dermatologist in South San Diego County fully-certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in all aspects of cosmetic surgery and by the American Board of Dermatology in all aspects of Dermatology. He is one of the very few Board-Certified Dermatologists with formal residency and fellowship training in both Cosmetic Surgery and Advanced Surgical Dermatology.
With this combined expertise in Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, he can thoroughly analyze each patient's face and body and offer comprehensive, custom-designed, low-risk treatments to improve their health and overall appearance.
Dr. Steinman is the Medical Director of MD Skin Esthetics and Spa, a comprehensive Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery center located in Chula Vista, California. He has taught advanced surgical techniques on the faculty of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, at numerous national and international medical seminars and conventions, and is co-author of the dermatology textbook, Mohs Surgery: Fundamentals and Techniques .
Medical Training & Experience: Dr. Steinman has over twenty years of training and experience in the practice of Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. He has served his patients' Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgical needs in Chula Vista since 1989.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Pomona College in 1976. He received his M.D. degree in 1980 from Washington University School of Medicine - consistently ranked among the top five medical schools in the United States.
Following his Dermatology residency training at the University of California, San Diego, he was selected as the Overseas Senior Registrar at St. John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, England - a position awarded to only one Dermatologist each year at the largest Dermatology hospital and research center in Great Britain.
Dr. Steinman then completed one additional year of advanced surgical fellowship training at the University of Illinois at Chicago, receiving comprehensive formal training in:

Medical School Faculty and Academic Practice: Dr. Steinman was a member of the full-time medical school faculty at the University of California, San Diego from 1984-1989. There he saw private patients on the La Jolla campus, served as Chief of Dermatology at the V.A. Medical Center (where he supervised the residency training and clinical programs), and received an Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.
Private Practice Dr. Steinman moved his private practice to Chula Vista in 1989. He is frequently called upon to lecture and teach Dermatology, Skin Cancer Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery to other doctors.
He is the proud recipient in 1999 of a Channel 10 Leadership Award for his program of removing gang-related tattoos from rehabilitated, former gang members.
Personal: Dr. Steinman was born and raised in Los Angeles and is married with two sons. He studied classical clarinet and enjoys playing and listening to music.
His main hobbies are flying radio-controlled gliders, sailing, and travel.

Publications, Lectures, Course Director: Dr. Steinman has written more than 25 medical and research publications in such journals as the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Dermatologic Surgery, British Journal of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

He has and continues to lecture at many regional and international Dermatology conferences and medical meetings.
Professional Consulting: Dr. Steinman has served as a Dermatology Consultant to several national and international Cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies. He was featured with Cindy Crawford and Cher on their nationally syndicated television programs as a consultant for each of their skin care lines. He has been interviewed on many occasions by Glamour, Good Housekeeping and Fitness Magazines, Dermatology Times, Skin and Allergy News, Skin & Aging Magazine, the San Diego Union-Tribune and Los Angeles Times, KNSD, KFMB, KGTV television and KFMB and KSDO radio stations. |
